    About

Sherwood Scientific Ltd is a Development and Manufacturing company producing a range of scientific instruments and apparatus with applications in many industries, education and research.

Based in Cambridge, the centre of excellence for the UK, we work with a very wide network of specialists in every area of science and technology.

In modern premises fully equipped with training and laboratory facilities, we offer product training courses to our distributors.

Our products are sold worldwide and we support our customers with one of the most extensive Distributor networks in the industry.

As well as manufacturing our own products, we are able to undertake specific consultancy projects in many areas of analytical measurements and process control utilising our own experience and harnessing our extensive contacts.

The history of Sherwood Scientific can be traced back more than 50 years to the founding of one of our antecedent companies Evans Electroselenium Ltd. This company was founded by Arthur Evans in the late 1930s and was based on the exploitation of the applications of the selenium photocell. The Flame Photometer and CHROMA range of Filter Photometers are examples of this exploitation.

The Sherwood Scientific products, now all manufactured in Cambridge, have also been associated with the Corning and CIBA Corning brands for several years.

Johnson Matthey is another company in the Sherwood story. Johnson Matthey is heavily involved in the precious metals industry and two of Sherwood products, the Fluid Bed Dryer and the Magnetic Susceptibility Balances were developed under their auspices.

Since the acquisition of these product ranges, Sherwood Scientific has developed several new versions of these products. The Model 420 is a Dual channel Flame Photometer with Internal standard and available for Clinical and Industrial samples. We have also developed the Model 420Cs Flame Photometer which comes with a Caesium reference channel as an alternative to the existing Lithium reference channel traditionally used. The Model 360 is designed for ease of maintenance whilst providing analysis of one element at a time. Being competitively priced the Model 360 is supplied with five filters for Sodium, Potassium, Lithium, Calcium and Barium as standard.

The AUTO MSB uses the same principle of measurement as the classic Evans design but is 200 times more sensitive.

Sherwood has added Microprocessor control of air flow, inlet air temperature and drying period to the Tornado dryer acquired from Johnson Matthey and The Model 501 Fluid Bed Dryer, the latest model from Sherwood features membrane sealed controls to prevent particle ingress and also has reduced operating noise.
